The Last Wedding

So, H got married on Monday.
Last of my girlfriend to do so.
You know what this means. I am the last single one and my mom is on my back. :|

Tragedies aside..it was a beautiful wedding.. well, what all we saw.

Let me start from the beginning.
Since i decided that i would go to her wedding at last...Oh, i did forgot to mention that we were estranged for a while. Have i?

So,Let me start from the very beginning..
After college, we, me and H were the only ones who had the chance to work together. We came really close during this time. Even past her space issues and my nomadic lifestyle. Then she forgot to call and tell me about something i really should not have heard from someone else. Even though that someone was our mutual best friend. I, as usual, was pissed of. (Some say that i take myself too seriously when no one else does. Not true.) And thus started the longest period on non-communication between us since we were 19. The usual me who faced people who irked her, decided that i am done with being the confronting one and shut all my roads that lead to H.
Then came her wedding date, which was fixed while we were talking. I knew she would call me to tell about venue and all, so i dodged her calls. SO many times. My parents got concerned and even agreed to go to H's wedding on my behalf.
One day, while writing this post, it dawned on me that its easy to give away an 8 year old friendship and at this point, i would have to wait till i am 35 to reach that spot with someone else..IF that someone was anything remotely like H. And someone wise once told me that all the best friends you make in your life would be before you turn 20 and unless the clock turns around, i wont be making new ones. So, i swallowed my pride, took her call and after some hot words, some hurt ones, some soothing and loving ones, it was like that period never existed for us! Yay! Really. Girlfriends are the best! :)

So, to my eternal delight, Sony and my Soul-sis Di was also coming to the wedding. (Thank god i was going :P) I went out and bought a super awesome sari which would burn everyone with envy(I wish :P) and set off from my home the time she specified to reach the wedding hall in time.
Now, I would have killed H if it was not her wedding and 2000 people were not in attendance. Keeping her time meant not only i was late, but i was shamefully late. As i rushed in to the hall with Sony and her son Jo, thankfully we caught the most important part of the ceremony. Thank you Travel-God for that!
Di, who was coming from 220+ kilometers, was too late and only made it around lunch. And oh boy, what a lunch :D.
After photos and bye-bye, we(me and Di) went to Trichur and roamed aimlessly eating ice creams and french fries(not together.) Then i packed her off to her hubby and got home to a long bath and comfy bed :)
She is going to be mind-blowingly happy. I just know it. And no one deserves it better than this adorable, goody two shoes, sneaky bitch best friend of mine. Here is to you!

Love is in the Air

There is only one thing that is more sizzling than this Summer Sun. And that is love. Everyone around me is in Love. Marrying, dating, getting engaged and even getting dumped.

H is getting married on 26th. After some 6 months of chatting and complaining about overseas SMS rates, the day is here. Her fiance cant wait to get his hands on her. I would too, if i were in his place. She is that awesome.
One of my best friends is dating. Yup, getting over the last time he was in love was tough. I almost thought the kid got allergic to love. Thank god, he isn't. anyways, he is not telling me much, but i guess its for the best. I can be professionally bitchy and not to mention irritably possessive :P
Adi, is engaged, and for good this time. Poor guy was doomed the first time and good to see that this time, he is happy, relaxed and very very excited. He is too busy to catch up these days. Still, when i get hold of him, i can see that he is radiating happiness.
Old college room mate is engaged and ridiculously into PDA. I mean, we all like PDA and stuff, but there is a limit na? I would exchange the one hour car-pooling we had with a day in a dungeon full of scorpions. And they laugh at each others jokes that are really not funny. And i think that makes them soul mates :P
So, why am i going on and on about all these? Well, there is the obvious delight of gossiping. But apart from that, its tough being single in an Indian small town in your late 20s. Especially if you are a girl. Ah.. but your smalltown girl is a tough cookie :P. I get by. Its actually fun. The only hard part is trying to be happy about all these love around you. Trying to accept the fact the sometimes life is not fair. And you wont get your wishes all the time.
But when the time comes.. I just want it to be worth all these waiting and loneliness and heartaches.
Can't wait! :)

The Doctor is In

Commuting from work is hell. So one of these days, i was waiting for bus and an auto came which was in my route and i had to auto-pool (funny :D) with a middle aged couple. The travel was silent, incident free.
And when i was nearing home, i asked the auto driver to stop.
So, something about my home. I have this board with Dr.Smalltown Girl written on the side of the short path leading to my home. This was erected in mom's insistence soon after my graduation, most likely to show off, and has gained me much ribbing from fellow college mates who travel this way and see the board.

So, as i was paying the auto driver..
Middle aged Decent looking Man(MDM): Oh, You here to the doc's house?
Me: *smiling* Yes.
MDM: Hmm, if you don't mind me saying so, there is another doctor at the next stop. Dr.KM. He is very famous.
Me: Oh i know him.
MDM: Oh. then why don't you go there?
Me: Because, i AM this doctor.
MDM: *spluttering sounds* Oh.. Sorry..I thought..
Me: Its ok. Dr.KM was my teacher at college. But OK.

As i was turning to go home, the MDM was still spluttering and the auto driver was laughing his ass off. I could't resist a smile. :)

Happy Vishu!!

First of all, happy vishu and happy new year to all Indians to whom it applies! Have an awesome year ahead. :)

So, Vishu. Childhood vishu was all about sleeping till early morning, waking up by mom with her hand closing my eyes.. then opening my eyes to the Vishu Kani, the splendor of classically arranged riches. Then praying, followed by some crackers and sleep some more. Later, pocket money by mom and dad, also known as a Vishu Kaineettam. Then the splendid lunch. Altogether, one awesome day.
Four years ago, after my college term started, i started feeling like a lady and decided i can do a better job in arranging the kani than mom(DO NOT TELL HER!) and i pestered her into letting me do the job, and when i say since then my family has been seeing better kani, i am not bragging :D
So this year too, around 11, after everyones dinner, i started out doing and completed it in 45 mins(Yes its a lot of work) unlike the last years 2 hours. Hmm i am improving. :) And like every year, i slept, mom woke me, took me down stairs, i didn't tripped or opened eyes in between, which i do every year and later lie about, and had an awesome view and slept promptly later. Mom had made all dished and left the Kheer for me to make, which i didn't messed up.. We didn't do any crackers, as our neighbors have a 3 month old kid. But we were shocked when we heard crackers and went out to see them bursting crackers. *facepalm*.
So all in all, yet another nice Vishu.. may this be a nice indication of the year i am about to have. Amen.

So the treat for you! see.. see.. i didn't bragged et all..

And another view...

So once again, Happy vishu, have all the riches this year, and do forgive the writer's block-ed self of mine.
Adios Amigos!

Relationship Rants

There are easy and tough relationships. Believe it or not, EASY ones are the tough to find.
Tough relationships you can find everywhere. You probably live many of those at a time. Like the one with the guy across the hall who likes to hang out with you when all you want to do is finish a book. Or a friend of a friend whom you cant avoid who doesn't find your jokes laugh-worthy. You getting the drift nah? You are neck deep in tough relationships which you didn't even wanted in the first place.
Then there is the easy ones. The ones you find accidentally. One college buddy you talk to once in an year and still has the best memories with. A favorite aunt who gives you cookies and listens to you when your mom would've dispensed advices you didn't asked for. The easy ones that don't trouble you or make you think for hours or gives you head aches.
Aren't they the best ones?
Or are they? Think again. There is a whole other level of tough relations you live. Think of your best friend. Was it easy? How many best friends sail through clear seas to reach their destination? How many fights you have had? The tears in halls. The angry looks.. Or your Love. The doubts, the fears, the conferences with your best friends with nothing less than a pros and cons chart. Or even your own mom. The arguments, the nagging and discussing you with strangers as if you are not even standing there in company.
All these were not pretty. In fact they were nothing better than bloody and hurtful and something you can always live without. But they got you those amazing people who are in love with you, who you cant picture your life without. So the tough time was worth it, isn't it?
So what i am trying to say is, live through the tough times. Some may not be worth the effort. Honestly, most of them are not worth the effort. But some are and its worth the risk. :)

PS:This is so not what i set out to write. But, you know what? Giving up is easy. Holding on is not. And who wants the easy way out?

Scenes from a reunion

The reunion was more than a month ago. So blame it on friends who says they will send the pics the next day and then forget it for months. Though i am posting no pictures here. So, aham.
It was scheduled after so much planning from Aji and Yaseen. So this goes to them.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*on entering the room*
Me: Hiyya Guys!!
Everyone: Hiyya Sree!
Someone: You lost weight!
Me: Yay me :D
Someone: Are you wearing lipstick?
Me: :-/
(This is a warning for all those tomboy college girls who return later, all girly)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Aji: Why were you so late??
Me:I thought this was a whole day thingy!
Ambu: No its not!
Aji: Who said that? I am the organiser, i said 9.30-1!
Me:But it was 10 to 4 in facebook event!!
Aji: And who was it that created the facebook event?
Me: Me. :|
Aji: Ahha!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Di(on phone): I forgot my footwear.
Me: Whaaat? Are you without any?
Di: I am wearing one. It’s a chappal.
Me: This is so sad. :D We'll go shopping :D :D
After some hours when Di is coming in to the hall..
ME: Guys, Di coming. Everyone look at her foot first.
Everyone Looks
*Hoots and laughs*
Di: Nice :-/
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Me: Where is fou?
Nish:She is nursing her kid.
Me:Hi fous.. Hi Adi…
Fou: :)
Me: Oh god, there's your boobs! :|
Fou: Yeah x-(

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Me:Hi seb!Is this your kid?*pointing at the 4 year old*
Seb: yeah
Me:is he the one who came to tour with us?
Back history: she was 7 months pregnant when we had the grand 10 day south India tour. And she jumped in all the rides and believe it or not, we were responsible for the safe delivery of that kid by forbidding her to enter many rides. By sheer force.
Seb: yeah. He is the one.
Kid: What tour? X-(
Kid:(after half an hour) What tour?
Me: :-S
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Me:Serena, would he like ice cream? (Her son is 1 yr old)
Serena: You can try. I haven't given him it yet.
Me:Ok, Let me.
Me:He likes it!
After five minutes
Me:Ok let me go irritate fou's kid now. bye!
Serena's son: *looking at me* MAMA!!
Serena: :O
Me: :D
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
All the fun aside, it was a joyous occasion. Most of us came and those who didn't, called. And those who didn't called, does not deserve mention :P
Things i remember:
  • There were loads of Kids. All cute and little. Ayshu's were exceptional, but no surprise as she and her husband look godly. i bought ice creams for many. Especially to Seb's kid who only mellowed to me after the ice cream. And of course, serena's.
  • We have all gone to a millions of lunches together. In packs of varying numbers. We have shared dishes, pestered to get treats, stolen from each other's plates and received angry glares for them and a million other things that college mates do. All those times we did bicker about money a lot. This time we were all earning. We all ordered separate dishes. And not looking at prices. And then we sat around picking food, not really hungry. Seeing each other after 2 years was really fulfilling :)
  • Everyone, how ever sophisticated they may be, return to their old selves in old company. I was loud, ambili was chatty, Serena still laughed a lot, Amar was pulling legs, Rahul serious as always... It was like we never left the campus. :)
  • Like everyone, i too scorned the idea of getting off my tushi on a sunday morning to go to the food'n'fun, a new restaurant near college where we met. Then afterwards we were discussing to do this again in a half year or annual basis. :P
  • I stayed with Di and ambu that day even though my home was only one hour away. We talked into night, me and Di, like our college days, the pillow talks with whispers and giggles and drooping eyes.
The best day indeed :)
PS: This photo is not from google. But from my college albums. It was the day after our final exams and we went on a tour to Munnar to unwind. Obviously, everyone is feeling as crazy as they look.
Kidding the kid.
Sony : Hi jaanu
Me: Hei, how are you? And how is my Jo?
Sony: He is fine.
Me:He is sleeping?
Sony: Neh. Right Here.
Me: And he doesnt mind that you call? Wow, peaceful kid, eh?
Sony: Hahaha. You have no idea.
Me: Why? You sound creepy.
Sony: When i talk to you, i am looking at him and making faces. He thinks i am talking to him.
Me: And thats why he is calm?
Sony: yeah.
Me: You are tricking him?
Sony : Er, Yes.
Me: How Mean! :|
Sony: :|
The one about blogging
I am, as usual, really obsessed with my blog. So i would advice you to skip it if you are not interested in pointless rambling.
I got promoted to 74/100 by indiblogger. You must remember my sad post when i was demoted to 57 and later i was promoted to 69, and now 74. Glee :D. So i imagine i am doing all the right stuff. And continue the support guys, you are all i have.
Having readers whom you personally dont know brings more responsibility than pride. Like you cant write about your silly out of context emotions or random fill-up tags. You can stop delivering. But you cant compromise on quality. Not too much. I dont consider my blog above average or myself an interesting person. Still, i care about you. I try my damnest to entertain you. And if i fail, umm.. dont kill me.
I once wanted to do all my title like the F*R*I*E*N*D*S's. Starting with "the one with" or "the one where". It would have been original if i started my blog in 1994. But then i was all busy being a 10 year old. Then again, i recently got a comment on a post about my titles being awesome, so i dont regret it at all. :)
I do think a lot of stuff to blog. Especially when i commute. This reminds me that i have a post on commuting coming up. Anyways, somehow i cant make myself sit and type it all out. Laziness or block, i dont know.
Some times you realize that you cant write all you want and you have to go back and delete some earlier posts because you fear for your first impressions and character assassination. I hate thinking about past. But its unavoidable.
And i am tired and sleepy. And have not much idea what i am typing out. I should stop.
Over and Out.
Missing the Kisses.
If the title sounded like anything relating me and kissing and piqued your curiosity, i do apologize. Alas, its not. But you guys will be the first to know if something happens. ;)
So, this is about SRK. I recently read somewhere that he swore he wont kiss on screen ever. Again. I remember him saying the same thing about 10 years ago and feeling all awww in my teenage-romance-idolizing bliss. But since then, i have grown up and saw life. Got over romance and went practical. This time i heard it, i went "whaaat? I can time travel?". I thought bollywood grew balls in the past few years. We watched films like Love aaj kal and Jism. And made hits for Hashmi. And last issue of filmfare featured lust in films.
Seriously, if an actor cant fake a kiss, what is he doing in the trade? And isn't it more scandalizing and embarrassing to watch people kiss on neck and below rather than a liplock? And SRK has never stayed away from necking and nuzzling, as you can see here and here. It does look much more passionate doesn't it? And i don't think SRK is all that prim and proper or old mannered to think bad shying away from kissing. Yet he says he is shy. Why? Why?
All this would mean only one thing. The man must be really bad at kissing.
Embarrassingly bad.
Now that explains a lot.
I am not saying that this explains his surprising lack of extra marital affairs in tinsel town.
You can always wonder.
[PS: This post is a result of me noticing that i haven't used my E news tag much. And i consider myself a huge hollywood and bollywood gossip grosser. I watch E! and buy filmfare for god's sake. How much more of a gossip i can be :P]
PPS: One thing i missed in Jaane tu ya jaane na was a kiss at climax. Didn't you? It felt incomplete. And i always wanted to say this some where. :P
A Class Act
When i was 12 and in my boarding school, one day the District Collector came for an annual day. He talked about his visit to the school he studied in and how proud he was when he stood before his old teachers and the new kids. I was enchanted by that. I then and there vowed to myself that one day i will go to teach in my school. And it will be awesome.
Years passed and i entered medicine after the school. Now, in my college, i understood coming back to teach is not at all novel. I have seen some of my teachers working at college and still being treated as students by those who taught them. They are laden with works cant protest for the respect and all that. And through out the years i found out that i have no aptitude for teaching. In fact i hated being in front of people who might snicker behind my back and make up names for me. Scary indeed. So i gave my dream a rest happily and went on with my cool-dudette-in-town attitude.
So, one of these days while at work, dad called me and said i have to attend a meeting in my school on saturday(7 march). I said ok, as this was my primary school before the boarding and very near my home. Then when i got home, he told me the kids are doing a camp and they need a doctor to give a class on Health and Hygiene. And he accepted on my behalf.
To be honest, i shook to my knees. I? Taking a class? I can barely stand on a stage with no one in audience. [ Confession: On a stage before a crowd is my most hated place in the entire universe. I am good at making fun of people on stage from audience though. :P]
So, i prepared a little note( to talk to 12 year olds :|) and i went there with mom. For moral support. Now, mom was a teacher in near by school and she is well known there. The problem is, this makes me well known too. And all my neighborhood kids study there. If i screw up, people are going to talk about it for ages.
So, after introduction of being an alumni, i took the stage. They were 60 kids. I said Hi. Then i just did it. I chucked my serious class plans and notes and asked them to tell me what they know on each topic. I tried to make it as interactive as possible and even cracked few jokes.
INSIGHTS INTO THE NEW AGE KIDS:
  • They are wicked smart. They know everything. They know stuff even you dont know. And even if they dont know, they dont hesitate to guess.
  • They are outspoken. I dont remember seeing one shy kid. They all raise hands together and if i say anyone, they all say it.
  • The attention span of them are something to be desired. Its approximately 1 min 25 seconds. Then they revert and chat with someone or look out of the window. And if you arw not used to this, you feel like pulling your hair out.
  • They know how to create noise pollution. And i respect my teachers for carrying on irrespective of all the rackets we made. I could barely concentrate.
  • They watch TV. A lot. And relate everything to ads. For example, i was asking about washing hands often and one boy shouted 'DETTOL HAND WASH!' :|
  • There are still all those "types". The one who sleeps after 15 mins. The note taker. The staring-into-board one. The one who asks pointless questions. The group of girls to giggles.
All together it was really fun for me. It was like talking to a group of kids like their elder sister and joking. Then i asked them if they had any questions. It was a scary moment. They can ask any million questions they know and i have no clue about. My perfect bubble can break any second. Then, after few question (which were rather easy. phew!) the coordinator came and rescued me. Which was followed by some hearty words of praises by him and a loud thaaannkyyyoouuuu... by the kids. How embarrassing :D. Then all my teachers came to me and reintroduced themselves. Some consulted me for ailments. And after tea i said bye and came home.
After coming home it dawned on me that it was one of my dreams i lived back there. I was proud and i was awesome. Exactly as i wanted to be. Life can really give you things you want and never expect.
So, dear life, now lets see all the other things i wished up on. And make it this awesome. :)
